Wakana Studio

About
Wakana Studio

Wakana Studio was established in 2007 by certified Pilates and GYROTONIC® trainer Wakana Hayashi. Located just a 3-minute walk from Ebisu Station, the studio is easily accessible via Tokyo’s excellent train and subway system. Sessions are private, and can accommodate all levels of fitness.

Currently, sessions in English are offered for women only.

Philosophy

At Wakana Studio, we seek to help each person to live a healthy life, with a feeling of freedom in their own body.

We welcome and support people who lack confidence in their physical fitness, are recovering from an operation or childbirth, or are experiencing challenges related to menopause. Our certified trainers are constantly expanding their areas of expertise.

Our sessions are private to encourage consultation about concerns.

We tailor sessions to the individual, and prioritize approaches likely to lead to improved quality of life.

About the Pilates method

Physical culturalist Josef Pilates created a system of exercises known for facilitating recovery from injury and improving posture. He also invented equipment for his exercises, the most famous of which is the Reformer.

At Wakana Studio, we use the Reformer as well as the Cadillac. We also use balls, resistance bands, and other props to assist positioning and correct muscle use.

About the GYROTONIC® method

Former ballet dancer Juliu Horvath developed movement sequences of arches, bends, curls, spirals, and waves to awaken the nervous system and encourage the body to move fluidly in three dimensions. These sequences can be performed while seated on a stool – the GYROKINESIS® method – or while using specialized equipment – the GYROTONIC® method.

At Wakana Studio, we use the GYROTONIC® Pulley Tower. The beechwood frame, handle unit, and pulley system offer customizable support and resistance for GYROTONIC® exercises. This machine can help you to gain functional strength and expand your range of motion safely.

Instructor

Wakana Hayashi

I discovered the Pilates and GYROTONIC® methods while seeking ways to recover from a herniated disk. Since then, daily training has become an essential part of my life.

I went through my first pregnancy and delivery in my 40s. Now in my 50s, I’m experiencing various changes in my body.

A woman’s body goes through many changes, and I want to support and care for those who may feel anxious or concerned about theirs.
